Ocean swim that had a good bit of chop. Tried to keep my stroke rate up and sighting often and take good lines. I think the course was a little long, but I came out a few slots ahead in AG as I have been in the past (Vineman/St.G)

I was pretty comfortable with this course as the “Big Kahuna” version. The added part added a decent hill where I felt like I could have excited a little better. Really felt as if I was pushing a low cadence because of what felt like a headwind/sidewind. I felt my watts were low for what I wanted, but overall my time was 4 mins faster than an “easier” course last year. Took in about 50 oz of Osmo. Ate about 300 cal. with Bonk Breakers and shot blocks. Prob should have eaten more food I guess.

Didn’t look on my watch one time and really tried to focus on pushing the intensity and the race progressed. Really wanted a good performance and I finally got one. One of the first runs where I was passing people including AG people. Really gave me great confidence during the run. I did get passed by a few really quick guys running sub 1:30. Took water every aid station and RedBull starting at mile 4 no food. Here are my last 3 runs at Big Kahuna. Same course over 3 years.
Nutrition: I didn’t really eat too much on the bike and the weather was really overcast and not very hot. I forced down fluids, but didn’t feel as hungry. I didn’t eat anything on the run, but got RedBull every aid station starting at mile 4.
I feel pretty good about this race. Very happy to have a big break through on the run and to see the work I have been putting in on the track to pay off. Didn’t get a roll down slot so headed to Lake Tahoe 70.3 this weekend.
